Privacy

Privacy, the short version.

We don’t want your data. The slightly longer version is below — in plain English, no lawyer cosplay.

The short version

  • No accounts

    Use everything without signing up.

  • Math stays in your browser

We don’t send or store calculator inputs.

  • No sensitive data, please

Never enter SSNs, bank credentials, or IDs.

  • Future stuff may change this

We’ll update this page if/when we add tracking.

What we collect today

CanYouAffordIt.com is, at the time this page was last updated, a set of static pages and in-browser calculators. The site itself does not require you to create an account or hand over any personal information to use it.

When you use a calculator (for example, the car affordability calculator), the numbers you type are processed entirely in your browser to show you a verdict. We don’t intentionally transmit those numbers to our servers, and we don’t intentionally store them. They live for as long as the page is open, then they’re gone.

Our hosting provider may log standard server information when you visit a page — things like your IP address, browser user agent, the page you requested, and the time of the request — for the usual reasons (security, abuse prevention, basic operational metrics). This is the level of data any normal website on the internet collects.

What we don’t do (yet)

We do not currently:

  • Sell your personal information to anyone.
  • Run third-party advertising or behavioral retargeting.
  • Set our own analytics, marketing, or cross-site tracking cookies.
  • Build a profile of you to share or sell.

That said, this is V1 of a real, growing site. We may eventually add privacy-respecting analytics, embedded affiliate links, or advertising. If and when we do, we’ll describe it here clearly.

Sensitive data, please no

The calculators are designed to work with general inputs — purchase price, monthly income estimate, etc. They never ask for, and you should never enter, things like:

  • Social Security numbers or national ID numbers.
  • Full bank account or card numbers.
  • Login passwords for other services.
  • Detailed health information.

Cookies and similar technologies

At the time of this update, CanYouAffordIt.com does not set its own tracking cookies. Your browser may store small amounts of data locally (for example, to keep your preferred color scheme) but nothing that follows you across the internet.

If we add advertising, analytics, or affiliate partners that use cookies or similar technologies, we’ll update this section and, where required, present an appropriate consent prompt.

Children

CanYouAffordIt.com is not directed at children under 13 and is not designed for use by them. If you’re a parent or guardian and you believe your child has provided information to us, email [email protected] and we’ll do our best to help.

Changes to this policy

We’ll update this page when our practices change. The “Last updated” date at the top tells you when. Material changes (e.g. introducing advertising or third-party trackers) will be described clearly here so you don’t have to play diff-the-document.

For context on how the site is meant to be used, see our Terms.
